What"s Surrogacy

Gestational surrogacy is the process whereby a woman – the gestational surrogate – consents to a embryo transfer process, otherwise called an IVF Procedure. During this procedure, an embryo (or plural embryos) deriving from the couple obtaining the surrogacy service is implanted in the surrogate. If and when the procedure is successful, the surrogate becomes impregnated with the child of the couple (the designed parents). The amount of involvement with the surrogate thereafter is absolutely up to the intended parents – typically, the couple is associated with the initial IVF treatments, and being present at the point of delivery of their child. They then assume responsibility for the child post-delivery and make the long term move to legal parenthood.

What"s IVF

IVF is something women choose to undergo when they are having problems with infertility. The conventional IVF involves removing the human oocytes from the ovaries and the fertilization process, accomplished by “letting" motile spermatozoa to fertilize the oocytes into a particular culture medium. This means that once embryos are created, they are transferred in to the uterine cavity through a process called Embryo Transfer. IVF is used to imitate the biological functions, in vivo.

IVF is chosen for women who"ve blocked or harmed fallopian tubes, thus stopping the egg and sperm from meeting naturally. IVF also may help you and your spouse if your infertility is unexplained and/or the male spouse has a low sperm count. Other factors like mature age endometriosis, immunology, being overweight and psychology may lead people to infertility. IVF could be the treatment for you if these factors come into play at this stressful time in your lives.

IVF Timeline

Step 1: Follicular Development and Monitoring

Throughout a woman"s normal menstrual period, LH and FSH are the hormones that your body uses to stimulate development and maturation of an individual oocyte. In order to optimize your pregnancy rates during IVF, it"s important to have more thatn one tmature oocyte for fertilization, embryo development and transfer into the uterus. The ovaries are therefore stimulated using higher levels of the stimulating hormone that normally exist within you. This is achieved using Gonadotrophin injections. Various stimulation regimes are present at the moment, and the physician chooses the one suitable to your biological system, to be able to achieve a great number of high quality oocytes. Close monitoring of the follicles (the sacs that contain the growing oocytes in the ovaries) is necessary and is achieved with frequent ultra-sound to be able to determine their size and their quantities. At the appropriate timing, an additional amount of hormones will be given, aiding with the final maturation of the oocytes. Predicated by all the available responses and laboratory studies, the most suitable time for the recovery will be established.

Step 2: Oocyte Recovery

This is the procedure where the doctor collects the oocytes of the womain’s body, a procedure requiring anesthesia. A little needle enters the top portion of the vagina, through the guidance of the ultrasound, into the ovary"s follicles. The liquid that is aspirated will be studied in the lab, where the oocytes will be identified and transferred into culture media in an incubator at 37oC to continue the maturation process for a few more hours.

Step 3: Fertilization of OOCYTS

In this stage, your partner must give his test of sperm on the day of the oocyte recovery which will be maintained until needed). His sperm will be carefully made ready with a particular procedure and the healthy spermatozoa separately. There are approximately 100,000 motile spermatozoa added per oocyte, with 4-6 hours after oocyte recovery. This is in order for the fertilization to occur within the following 12-18 hours in the incubator. The insemination process will lead to the fertilization of the oocytes, and resulting embryos are transferred to different culture media to be observed closely over the next 48 hours.

Step 4: Embryo Transfer

Good quality embryos are chosen and are transferred through the neck of the womb using a little catheter based on their rate of development and morphology. The number of embryos which will be transferred is decided according to the age and health background of the potential mother; alongside the number and quality of the embryos which have been released during each remedy cycle. For every couple, there is a possibility of having more than one child. Embryo transfer is a pain-free procedure, much like having a cervical smear, and fortunately takes just a few minutes. After the process has been completed, we recommend a short resting period in the recovery room. The day after, oocyte retrieval progesterone and other supplements will be prescribed to ensure that the lining of the uterus receives sufficient stimulation and sustains the implantation of the embryos. Quantitative pregnancy tests with blood also needs to be done 12-14 days after embryo transfer.
