What"s Surrogacy

Gestational surrogacy is the process whereby a woman – the gestational surrogate – consents for an embryo copy process, otherwise called an IVF Procedure. During this method, an embryo (or plural embryos) deriving from the couple obtaining the surrogacy service is implanted in the surrogate. If the procedure is successful, the surrogate becomes impregnated with the child of the couple (the supposed parents). The amount of engagement with the surrogate thereafter is completely up to the intended parents – typically, the couple is involved with the initial IVF treatments, and being present at the point of birth of their child. They then take responsibility for the child post-delivery and make the permanent move to legal parenthood.

What"s IVF

IVF is an option women choose to undergo when they are having difficulties with infertility. The conventional IVF involves the removal of the human oocytes from the ovaries and the fertilization process, achieved by “letting" motile spermatozoa to fertilize the oocytes into a special culture medium. Which means that once embryos are made, they are transferred in to the uterine cavity through an activity called Embryo Transfer. IVF is utilized to mimic the biological functions, in vivo.

IVF is chosen for women who"ve blocked or damaged fallopian tubes, thus preventing the egg and sperm from meeting naturally. IVF also may help you and your partner if your infertility is unexplained and/or the male partner has a low sperm count. Other factors like mature age endometriosis, immunology, being overweight and psychology may lead a couple to infertility. IVF can be the treatment for you if these factors come into play during this stressful time in your lives.

IVF Timeline

Step 1: Follicular Development and Monitoring

During a woman"s normal menstrual cycle, LH and FSH are the hormones that your body uses to activate development and maturation of a single oocyte. To be able to optimize your pregnancy rates during IVF, it is important to severa tmature oocyte available for fertilization, embryo development and transfer into the uterus. The ovaries are therefore activated using higher amounts of the stimulating hormone that normally exist within you. This is achieved using Gonadotrophin injections. A variety of stimulation regimes can be found at this time, and the doctor chooses the main one best suited to your biological system, in order to achieve a great number of high quality oocytes. Close monitoring of the follicles (the sacs which contain the growing oocytes in the ovaries) is required and is achieved with frequent ultra-sound in order to ascertain their size and their quantities. At the appropriate timing, an additional amount of hormones will be given, aiding with the final maturation of the oocytes. Predicated by all the available opinions and laboratory findings, the best time for the restoration will be determined.

Step 2: Oocyte Recovery

This is the procedure by which the doctor collects the oocytes of the female body, a procedure requiring anesthesia. A little needle enters the upper portion of the vagina, through the direction of the ultrasound, into the ovary"s follicles. The substance that is aspirated will be taken to the laboratory, where the oocytes will be determined and transferred into culture media inside an incubator at 37oC to continue the maturation process for a few more hours.

Step 3: Fertilization of OOCYTS

In this step, your partner will have to give his test of sperm on the day of the oocyte restoration which will be preserved until needed). His sperm will be carefully prepared with a special method and the healthy spermatozoa separately. There are about 100,000 motile spermatozoa added per oocyte, with 4-6 hours after oocyte restoration. This is in order for the fertilization to take place within the next 12-18 hours in the incubator. The insemination process will lead to the fertilization of the oocytes, and resulting embryos are transferred to different culture media to be observed closely over the next 48 hours.

Step 4: Embryo Transfer

Good quality embryos are chosen and are transferred through the womb using a little catheter based on their rate of progress and morphology. The amount of embryos that"ll be transferred is decided according to the age and medical history of the potential mother; alongside the quantity and quality of the embryos which have now been released during each therapy cycle. For every couple, there"s a possibility of experiencing several child. Embryo transfer is a painless method, much like having a cervical smear, and fortunately takes only a few minutes. Once the process has been completed, we highly recommend a short resting period in the recovery room. One day after, oocyte retrieval progesterone and other supplements will be given to ensure that the lining of the uterus receives sufficient activation and sustains the implantation of the embryos. Quantitative pregnancy tests with blood must also be done 12-14 days after embryo transfer.
